Eszter Szalma / Joimove Babies & Kids Trainee
My name is Eszter Szalma; I was born in Szeged-Hungary. I am a friendly and energetic individual with a passion for both teaching and the contemporary dance. I have been performing since I was a child and teaching for over five years, which has provided me with the skills, knowledge and experience to pass on my passion to people of all ages and abilities.
I was studying at BA Single Honours at the University of Roehampton. I became interested in dance at an early age, developing my own unique style using ballet and contemporary techniques. Dance plays a very important role in my life, and it is my aim to become a professional teacher, and teach a younger generation to dance. I have studied dance in my home town in Hungary, as well as at West Thames College, University of Roehampton, and Goucher College. I was studying abroad at Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, exposing me to American Modern Dance. One of the best thing was about my abroad experience is the intense dance training and opportunity to teach a dance classes. I was thoroughly enjoying the dance programme and the challenges of academic study. With my passion for finding a fusion between ballet and contemporary dance, I am driven to become a qualification teacher at bbodance.
(My passion is to teaching started in my early age. I started dancing at the nursery school. I learned Hungarian folk dances and as I had a good sense of rhythm, I was leading the group in childrens’ games and dances on stage. I was a member of the historic dance group and flag-swinging group called Pavane for two years. We toured Hungary, several neighbouring countries and France with our performances. We learnt medieval, baroque, renaissance, 19th century European dances, including Hungarian ball dances. With my ballet background, I had an opportunity to lead a ballet classes for the dance group. In London, during my BA dance studies, and I was a teacher with Anikó Solti’s – Dancers Academy Health classes. With this experience I was able to assist children ballet classes age 3-14 and adult ballet classes. In my study abroad experience I had a chance to lead a modern dance classes within my academic studies. With this experience I was aiming for to improve dance techniques, use creative activities and built their physical fitness. In the University of Roehampton I was leading a Dance Societies ballet classes every week. I also, assist a ballet class with English National Ballet Dance for Parkinson. This classes help to deal with elderly people and I am happy to give my support during the class time. )
I was studying toward at bbodance Extended Level 6 Teaching Diploma. From my teaching qualification course I have learnt many important aspects of pedagogic practice, such as inclusively. I am a patient teacher and able to stay calm in difficult situations. I use humour to create positive learning environment for students and have the enthusiasm to build trust with each student I teach, understand that every student has a different life and the right to learn as much as their peers. I am passionate about overcoming gender-normative stereotypes by making dance and dance to all and am highly motivated to achieve this. Working as a nanny has also greatly improved my time management, organisational skills and enhanced the way that I communicate with children.
After becoming a mother in February 2018, I decided to combine my knowledge and experiences in dance. At present I am studying at Joimove® to learn babywearing dance safety. Enjoying all these teaching trainings and I would like to become a professional babywearing instructor. I am strongly devoted to becoming an excellent dance teacher and want to develop as much as possible to be able to teach the younger generations.
I am really excited to be part of Joimove community- finally I can organize my classes and I would have a dance school. First planning to focus on babywearing classes to help mums and baby to able to dance together.
I have a big dream for the next 5 years. I would like to open a Dance Academy (Eszter Szalma Dance Academy) and run dance classes. The classes will be for children and adults as well. Joimove give a great opportunity to part of as offer many different programs. In the academic part of the dance academy, I would offer a dance classes for every age and I would like to involve a lot f dance technique and styles as such as classical ballet, modern dance techniques, ballroom and latin dances, pilates and yoga.
